We received a summer kimono made of sha with a cool and beautiful sheer texture. Making the most of the modern pattern floating on the deep navy background, we created a piece that can also be enjoyed as a light haori jacket Cha button dress carrying the memories of its time as a kimono, ready to color the new season.
Design decisions
To maximize the beautiful sheer texture unique to ro and sha, we designed it as a front-opening dress that can also be worn as a light outerwear piece. The pattern, which stands out against the deep navy, is scattered in a way that blends naturally across the sheer fabric. Tying the matching belt at the waist allows you to enjoy a different silhouette.
Fabric and tailoring
Because the fabric is delicate and has a slight firmness, we sewed it carefully so as not to spoil its texture. We made the most of the original kimono bolt width, allowing ease in the bodice for light and graceful movement. We paid close attention to placing the pattern so that the kimono fabric maintains a dignified presence as a garment.
The finished piece
Under the summer sun, the gently sheer fabric looks remarkably cool. It can be worn simply as a dress, or opened up over a T-shirt and trousers as a haori. It brings an elegant coolness to a stroll through town with a parasol or a quiet evening walk.
