About Pattern & Material

A kimono whose grasses-and-flowers motif is expressed through shibori and a woven ground.
Shibori is a resist-dyeing technique: parts of the cloth are bound with thread or pinched with tools before dyeing, so only the gathered areas resist the dye and form the pattern.
Done entirely by hand, it is fine, painstaking work — a precious piece that takes great time and care.
White flowers on a calm grey. The leaves, dyed in pink and deep red, lend a certain charm.
The plain kimono is a graceful chōshun-colored irotomesode with a lovely drape.
