We received a homongi (a semi-formal kimono) featuring a beautiful gradient of varying wisteria shades. It is an elegant piece with delicate flowers and grasses depicted along the hem and sleeves. Making the most of the graceful eba pattern unique to this homongi, we tailored it into Tsuki sleeve dress to be worn on special occasions.
Design decisions
Considering how to use the eba pattern spreading across the hem with grace and impact, we placed it near the hem of the Tsuki sleeve dress. The skirt sways gracefully with every step, creating a simple A-line silhouette that highlights the shaded dyeing from pale wisteria to deep purple.
Fabric and tailoring
We carefully tailored the dress to produce a natural drape, taking advantage of the beautiful fall unique to supple pure silk fabric. We made generous use of the main panels from when it was a kimono. In addition, since the plain, unpatterned areas are also refined, we used them effectively for the upper body and sleeves, cutting the fabric while balancing it with the pattern.
The finished piece
This piece is well-suited for slightly special occasions, such as dining with loved ones, celebrating anniversaries, or attending the theater. With every movement, the flowers and grasses at the hem gently peek out, adding an elegant radiance. It will beautifully enhance the wearer's poise and continue its story in a new form.
