A beautifully subdued homongi (a semi-formal kimono) entrusted to us by our customer. Making the most of the graceful eba pattern flowing along the hem, we tailored it into a clean silhouette of the Tsuki sleeveless dress. This piece allows you to enjoy the memories of your treasured kimono anew as modern attire.
Design decisions
We placed the gorgeous eba pattern of cranes and plants depicted on the hem so that it looks like a single painting. Considering ease of wear, we designed an A-line dress with the pattern gathered near the hem. Calculating the width of the kimono fabric and the position of the pattern, we tailored a silhouette in which the hem sways gracefully with every movement. The V-neck, which gives the face a clean look, enhances the elegant atmosphere.
Fabric and tailoring
We paid meticulous attention to cutting so that the eba pattern unique to homongi would not be interrupted. We made the most of the kimono's fabric width and calculated so that the pattern on the front is placed most beautifully. Utilizing the pliable drape of the fabric, we tailored it with a generous skirt volume to create natural drapes.
The finished piece
This piece is perfect for slightly special occasions such as celebrations, parties, and theater visits. Every time you walk, the hem sways lightly, and the depicted cranes look as if they are spreading their wings. The subdued background color produces elegance and will further enhance the wearer's poise.
