We received a tsukesage (a semi-formal kimono) featuring delicate vertical stripes and gentle flowers on a soft cream background. While honoring the elegant presence of this kimono, we tailored it into a light, breathable Tsuki sleeveless blouse and Furinso tiered skirt set. A treasured garment has been reborn as a new piece for everyday wear.
Design decisions
A simple silhouette highlights the vertical stripes. The gorgeous patterns from the kimono's sleeves and hem are placed asymmetrically on the left shoulder and chest of the blouse, as well as the middle and lower tiers of the skirt. A clean V-neck enhances the sophisticated impression.
Fabric and tailoring
We carefully positioned the pattern to showcase the vertical stripes that define the appeal of this kimono. Within limited yardage, we worked closely with the client to find the best layout. Making use of the supple drape of the fabric, the finished pieces are airy and comfortable without clinging to the body.
The finished piece
Simply pairing it with simple trousers or a skirt creates a sophisticated look. With a smooth silk texture and fresh color palette, it is also recommended for resort wear or gatherings with friends. The hem sways gently with every movement, a quality unique to fine kimono silk. It is a garment that allows you to spend your days in high spirits, enveloped in cherished memories once again.
